Dust Mite Control In Bedding

Many people suffer from allergies that may be irritated by dust mites in bedding products.  As you sleep at night skin particles fall from your body into your bedding.  These skin cells become food for dust mites to thrive on and multiply.  A dust mite can not consume the skin cells until it is broken down by a fungus.  Another problem, everyone has both dust mites and fungus growing in your bedding.  Depending on your level of allergies you may have to take more drastic measures to ensure your good nights sleep and promote your health.

There are ways to control the growth of both dust mites and fungus.  The old fashion way is to use white sheets and pillowcases and wash in hot water with chlorine bleach on a weekly basis.

The mattress and bed pillows can be enclosed in a vinyl or dust mite proof fabric.  This is a very effective barrier method.  Some of these products are hot, noisy and plain uncomfortable to sleep on, so be sure of what you are buying.

Advances in bedding products help you between washings.  Use mattress pads and bed pillows with an anti-microbial treatment that also contains an anti-fungal compound.  The anti-fungal treatment controls the growth of the fungus that breaks down the skin cells into dust mite food, in other words you stop the food chain for the dust mite, therefore stopping reproduction.  This protection can be built into traditional bedding products that are comfortable to sleep on.
